Toy Hunt: Toys with Wings

It's so good to be able to participate again for this week's toy hunt. Before the lights go out at 8:30, let me share with you my finds for today's theme.

Jollibee
fairy
ducky

Erin received her first ever Jollibee stuffed toy this year. My mom gave it to her. The fairy doll is a new one which she got on her birthday. And old reliable ducky is a fave during bath time.

Thanks for looking! Hope you all have a great weekend. :)

Still Alive

I am still alive!!! LOL. Gosh, it has been a busy month indeed that this poor old blog has been neglected. I soooo apologise for that, and I do intend to make up for my absence in the coming weeks. March is just such a hectic month for my family and me.

Anyway, before I go (again), I'd like to share with you a lil something. Are you familiar with Cheeky Check-up? It's an awareness campaign initiated by the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre here in Oz. I really like the name of their campaign!

There are heaps of info on their website, and just to highlight a few, here are some things that you can do to reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.

  • Alcohol increases your risk of breast cancer, so keep your alcohol consumption down. Your risk increases with each standard drink per day. This includes beer, wine and spirits.

  • Active women of all ages are at reduced risk of breast cancer compared to women who do not exercise. And the more exercise you do, the bigger the benefits.

  • Having children at a younger age (less than 30 years) can reduce your risk of breast cancer. The more children you have, the lower your risk.

  • Breastfeeding for a total of 12 months or longer can slightly reduce your breast cancer risk.

Click here to visit the Cheeky Check-up website.

Anyway, speaking of health, another thing that kept us occupied last week was J's bout with unexplainable stomach cramps that kept him awake in the wee hours of the morning. So he went to see our GP and he was told to undergo some tests. The results will be given next week, so we are still pretty much in the dark about it. Let's hope it is nothing serious or he does not have to resort to colon cleansing or any radical procedures. *fingers crossed*

Toy Hunt: Wild Animals

What could be wilder than an elephant and a lion? Well, these were the only ones I could find that fit this week's theme for Toy Hunt.

The lion is part of a mobile which you can dangle and hang on a stroller to keep the baby occupied while we go do our business in the malls and wherever else that we need to be. The elephant is also a pram toy, but it is tied in front of the baby for him or her to play with. Each belong to a group of other animals but these were not 'wild' enough to make it to today's hunt. :)

You can find more toys here. Thanks for looking and have a wonderful weekend ahead!

Mommy Moments: Sleeping Time

Since my internet connection is not at its best at this time, I have difficulty going through my online albums to search for my mommy moment entry for this week. I rarely take photos of Erin while she's sleeping so I'm posting only one of them rarest moments for this week.

This is one of my favorite snapshots of her. Like some of the other parents, Erin has had sleep issues ever since she came into this world. That is why if and when she does fall asleep, we let her be and savor that moment whatever position she may be in such as the one shown in the above photo. Her dad was watching TV while carrying her on his lap, and soon she feel asleep. She was 11 weeks old in this picture.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments! You can check out more mommy moments here.

How It's been

So where have been since my last post? Around really. I've just been in the background the whole time though it has been terribly busy. Also, I have been transferring one of my domains to another hosting company so that is an ongoing project I am tending to at the moment.

On the homefront, it's all about budgeting. Even with the sales and awesome package deals retailers are offering these days, you still have to keep yourself from overspending especially in a time when nothing is ever certain. So even if they are so-called Discount Blinds, it is still a no go not only for us but for everyone else in the world.

Yes, we qualified for the stimulus package that the government has been giving out, but that all goes to our bills. We're just trying to ride out the waves at the moment, hoping that one day we can all breathe a sigh of relief and go back to the way things were. So how are you guys holding up?

Toy Hunt: Yellow Toys

This week's theme was easy. As most toys are in primary colors, finding this bunch in Erin's crate was a breeze. Just click on the images to enlarge.

Time for me to hit the sack now. People will be dropping by later in the afternoon to pick up Mama Mary, and bring her to another house. Gosh, she's leaving us already! The week flew by so fast, I hardly noticed it! And though I haven't been bloghopping that much this week, I hope to make it up soon to everyone who's been so kind to leave their comments here. It's just so busy, busy, busy at this time of the month in this household.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks (as always) for dropping by! :)

Mommy Moments: Bath Time

Right, it's Friday once again, and it's time for another round of Mommy Moments. Before I go off and check something by Patek Philippe, let me do a quick post.

mommy moments

As I am the designated person to give Erin her bath, photos during these moments are rare. Good thing I found one, taken by her dad, when she was just six months old.

She used to take her baths in her own tub but there came a point when she was just too heavy for me already so we graduated bath times to the big tub in the bathroom. These days, we occasionally let her take showers as well because she's quite careful and does not move around much as she's afraid of slipping.

Pardon this short entry. I've got tons to do today and in the coming weeks so please bear with me. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sleep Updates

I haven't been much of a blogger here lately. As some of you know, Erin's been having sleep issues of late. We've had several sleepless nights, many of which are due to Erin awakening in the wee hours of the morning either from night terror or for God-knows-what. Losing sleep has taken a toll on us and the effects are showing (I think acne treatment is in the works)! We don't have the pacifier anymore to help her get back into her sleep so we feed her a bottle of milk. It works, but she's so unsettled even in her sleep (tossing and turning always), which keeps me awake as well since I am such a light sleeper.

So I did a little experiment last night. She slept at around ten after downing a bottle of milk, then I left her alone in the room, and stayed with J in the guest room beside it. She woke up 30 minutes later crying in her sleep so I reckon that must have been a case of NT. I carried her in my arms and rocked her to sleep. She fell sleepy once again so I laid her down in her bed. She was still awake but I told her that mommy had to go for a wee. She replied with an "OK" so I took off. I didn't really go to the loo. I just wanted to leave her alone so she can fall asleep by herself. Well, she didn't cry after I left her so I assumed she was able sleep on her own. I was happy! But after a few hours she woke up again. This time though I fed her another bottle, changed her nappy, and after she finished her milk, I left her again on her own using the "wee" excuse. True enough, I had the same result, and she did not ask for me again. Just the same I slept at around 2PM because I wanted to make sure that all was okay.

I think I am the reason why she can't sleep as peacefully as before, so I will test this conclusion once again tonight. If this is the case, then Erin (who is just shy of being 2 years old) can now sleep in her own room! Ah yes, after all the sacrifices, our hard work is finally paying off. I am keeping my fingers crossed though, as I have yet to confirm these with several trials in the next few nights. Still, I am very pleased with what we've accomplished! :D
